Your Fashion Week Hangover: I need to lie down

14 Feb

The problem with fashion week is that you can’t just be like “oh. I’ll catch up on this later” because then when you check back its developed into this hideous beast sitting in your backyard eating all your plants and then you’re hungry and angry and overwhelmed with JEWEL TONES.

Which brings me to my first point: jewel toned satins are to fall what florals are to spring: obvious. I get it, designers but I feel like you’re beating me over the head with this static-inducing look.

That’s not to say there isn’t some AWESOME stuff out there right now. Lets start with Jill Stuart:

let me tell you why I like this collection, use of jewel toned satins aside. . Its pretty simple really. One, platform loafers are a yes to me any time of year. I like a sturdy shoe to stomp around in. These look like they could withstand an angry power walk. Two: owls and foxes used on prints. Three: fur accents.

Next up!  Jenny Packham!

There is nothing I can say here that you aren’t saying to yourself right now. “oooh. shiny. ooh. pretty. oooh. sparkles. ooh. cat suit!” And to be honest, that’s all it takes for me sometimes to be interested in  a collection: sparkles. The very basest of my instincts kick in and all of a sudden I’m a 4-year-old in a bridal shop pulling out tulle skirts and making a bed to look up at all the glittery gowns. Except in this case the gowns are replaced slinky, sexy one pieces and the tulle bed is replaced by the internet.

Finally, my dream collection, Malandrino:

Now, earmuffs all you PETA folks: i love fur. sorry. I prefer vintage since the damage has already been done but bottom line? I love fur. So in walks Malandrino with her floppy hats and her wide legged trousers/menswear cuts and her fur coats and her dramatic collars and I can’t help myself. I’m caught up in a clichéd  boho fashion  dream starring Stevie Nicks and Jane Birkin and I am loving it.

I really love all of the hats but I have a fat head so it might not be something I can translate into my life. And also, I keep seeing all these runway jumpsuits but only one knock off (which now hangs in my closet, thanks Target!). What gives?
